Your legal matter is likely the most pressing issue in your life at the moment. A consultation can help to understand the basics of your situation and make sure we're the right fit. Let's go over what to expect during a consultation. 

First, consultations are not a time for a deep dive into your legal matter. When we hop on the phone, this conversation is a high-level overview of the nature of your situation. During this time, we will discuss the legal process surrounding your matter. Sometimes, your legal matter is something outside of my area of expertise. If that is the case, I might refer you to someone who is an expert in that particular area. Other times, while I may be able to handle your matter, the cost may be disproportionate to your return on investment. I care about how much you might have to spend on representation, so this is something we will discuss during our conversation.

Next, it is important to note this conversation may vary in duration and depth. Sometimes, it might be a 2-minute phone call or an email exchange. Other times, it might involve a meeting in my office. 

Lastly, a consultation is not a time for to provide a strategy or offer detailed legal advice, as doing so requires due diligence on my part to review the matter in detail and conduct legal research. We cannot develop a strategy until we know what we're up against, nor can I ever make a promise regarding a specific outcome. (Note: if any attorney promises you an outcome, get it in writing or run away as fast as you can)! 

Ultimately, a consultation is an opportunity to understand if your legal matter and my services are the right fit. If so, we will discuss next steps (which includes determining when we will deep dive into your case) at the end of our conversation.
