Steven W. Rakow

Steve has extensive criminal trial and civil litigation experience. From minor traffic, DUI, and misdemeanors to major felonies such as murders, burglaries, firearms, and white collar crime, Steve has handled a wide array of cases. In the area of civil litigation, Steve handles everything from simple contract disputes to construction defects litigation. Other areas of practice include basic corporate matters, contract review, and general practice matters. He has been in-house counsel to a construction company and was an appellate law clerk.
Steve graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987 and served as a Marine officer (5 years active/15 years reserve) until retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2007. He graduated from Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in 1996 and practiced in Ohio before relocating to Maryland in 2000. Steve volunteers with the Worcester County Bar Association, serving as its president in 2016. Steve regularly volunteers with high school mock trial competitions and non-profit boards.
He is a member of the Attorney Grievance Commission’s Peer Review Committee, the Maryland State Bar Association (Board of Governors 2017-2019), and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association. Steve is also a member of the American Bar Association and was recently elected as the Maryland State Bar Association’s representative to the ABA. In 2019, Steve was appointed by the governor of Maryland to the Board of Trustees for the Office of the Public Defender and as the Chair of the Worcester County Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board.
